Touchscreens
Zola Baker-Coleman

A touchscreen is a display that senses location of a touch within the area. The touch or contact can be made with either hand or finger contact. The ability to interact directly with a display typically indicates the presence of a touchscreen. The touchscreen has two main characteristics: 1) enables user to directly interact with what is displayed on the screen, 2) allows interaction without any intermediate device (stylus). Devices with this assistive technology, aid those with limited communication, muscle-tone, or those with inadequate comprehension of mouse-cursor-click connection. Touchscreen displays can be attached to computers, ATMs, phones and more. As an assistive technology, devices with touchscreen displays aid those with limited communication skills, limited muscle tone (keyboarding/clicking), and individuals who have difficulty comprehending the connection between the cursor, the mouse, and selecting.
